Kevin Robert Clemenz of Hampton Bays died at home on November 10, 2017, surrounded by his loving family after a prolonged battle with multiple myeloma, exacerbated by a recent diagnosis of acute lymphoblastic leukemia. He was 69.
A lifelong resident of Hampton Bays, Mr. Clemenz graduated from Hampton Bays High School in 1966. He was an Army seaman from 1967 to 1970, stationed in Thailand as a watercraft operator, delivering supplies to Vietnam. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
In 1972, he married Shirel Wouters, and together they celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on November 2, 2017.
Mr. Clemenz was an avid New York Mets and New York Jets fan. He enjoyed NASCAR and betting at OTB, especially during the Kentucky Derby. He was a member and officer of the Shinnecock Marlin and Tuna Club; the Elks; and the Thailand, Laos, Cambodia (TLC) Brotherhood. He loved fishing and boating, and discussing politics.
In addition to his wife, Shirel, he is survived by his brothers, Peter M. Clemenz and of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Robert Clemenz and spouse Rick Duplantier of New Orleans; sister-in law Kathleen Clemenz; sister-in-law Suzanne Friend; brother-in-law Bobby Gregor and wife Kathy; brother-in-law Patrick Gregor and wife Diane; Kimberly Ottati; and many other nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his dogs, Maggie and Max.
He was predeceased by his parents, Heinz H. (Robert) and Mary T. Byrnes Clemenz; and a sister, Mary Ellen Kadak.
A funeral Mass took place on November 14 at the Church of St. Rosalie in Hampton Bays, followed by interment at Good Ground Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Scott Funeral Home in Hampton Bays.
