Geraldine Mongiello of Riverhead, formerly of Hampton Bays, died on February 28, 2018. She was 73 and diagnosed with pancreatic cancer just five weeks before.
Born in Hartford, Connecticut, on October 22, 1944, she was the daughter of Timothy and Margaret O’Shea. She graduated from South Oaks Institute for Drug, Alcohol and Compulsive Disorders as a counselor. She worked at South Oaks Hospital and Seafield Center. In 2013 she moved to Stoneleigh Woods in Riverhead.
An active member of the communities in which she lived, she was a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary Hand-Aldrich Post 924 Hampton Bays, the chairperson for the Secret Santa Program for the Northport VA Hospital, and volunteered for the Flying Point Foundation for Autism.
Survivors said she will always be remembered for her fun-loving personality and for the tremendous care and compassion she shared with family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Mongiello; her children, Maureen (Steven) Orlando, Colleen (Kevin) Malone, Kerry Ann Gill, and Kevin (Kim) O’Connell; and 18 grandchildren, Jenna, Sean, Patrick, Reilly, Meghan, Erin, Kevin, Ryan, Conor, Colby, Kiera, Braeden, Maggie, Tommy, Isabella, Daniel, Drew and Brett. She is also survived by a brother, Eugene (Gail) O’Shea; and a sister, Maureen Kennedy.
