UPDATE: Sunrise Highway Reopens Following Thursday Afternoon Dumpster Fire

One lane was closed on Sunrise Highway about a mile west of the Hampton Bays exit on Thursday after a garbage container caught fire.

UPDATE: 4 p.m.

The dumpster truck fire was cleared from Sunrise Highway, as vechiles begin to pour on the road for the evening rush hour.

The closed westbound lane was closed for about 30 minutes, according to Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman.

ORIGINAL:

A westbound lane on Sunrise Highway, just west of the Hampton Bays exit, was closed on Thursday afternoon after a trash container caught fire.

State Police responded to a call for a truck fire near Exit 65 on Sunrise Highway at 1:31 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, according to Trooper Ed Arias. No injuries were reported.

One lane remained open and westbound traffic, while slowed, was able to continue westbound.

Firefighters on the scene quickly put out the blaze.
