Devora “Dee” Brooks died on April 23, 2019. She was 85.
Born June 1, 1933, to the late Mary Lucy Walker and Benjamin Sykes in Jackson, North Carolina, she met George “Bill” Brooks Sr. when she moved to Long Island, and they married on October 10, 1953. The couple had four children, Anna, George Jr., Elisa and James.
Ms. Brooks loved to cook. She worked at the Riverhead Nursing Home until she retired. She also enjoyed reading, survivors said.
She was predeceased by her son, George Jr.; her husband; sisters, Ida, Lelar, Lucy, and Gloria; and brothers, James, Ben, Leroy and Roosevelt.
She is survived by her children, Anna Brown of Westhampton Beach, Elisa Brooks of North Carolina, and James Brooks and wife Ann of Centereach; sisters, Beatrice Thomas, Audrey Sims and Bea Burgess; sisters-in-law Geraldean Holman (Clyde) of Delaware, Stella Wright (Daniel) of Brooklyn, Sylviann Wilson (Ulysses) of Florida, Lessie Mae Miller of Florida, and Mary Pinckney of Riverhead; daughter-in-law Darlene Brooks of Maryland; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great- grandchild; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Scott Rothwell Funeral Home in Hampton Bays.
