Two Incumbents Unchallenged In Hampton Bays School Board Race

May 10, 2019 3:52 PM

On May 21, Hampton Bays residents will be asked to vote on the school district’s proposed $54.3 million operating budget for the 2019-20 fiscal year.

Additionally, two incumbents are uncontested in seeking reelection to the Board of Education. Kevin Springer, the board’s current president, is seeking his third three-year term and Vice President Richard Joslin is seeking his fourth term.

Richard Joslin

Mr. Joslin has lived in Hampton Bays his entire life and has dedicated more than 34 years to teaching at the district before retiring in 2010.

During his career, he taught his children, Tarrin, Stefani and Taite, all of whom have graduated from the district. Mr. Joslin is also proud to have graduated from Hampton Bays High School in 1970.

Within the next three years, he said, his main goal is to maintain all of the district’s present programs and extracurricular activities, while remaining within the state-mandated cap on tax levy increases. He also hopes to expand the district’s advanced placement and elective courses.

He currently serves as the student teaching coordinator of Suffolk County for SUNY Cortland.

Kevin Springer

Mr. Springer has been a resident of Hampton Bays for more than 50 years, according to the Hampton Bays School District website.

He graduated from the district and has devoted his adult life to the school, serving as a youth sports coach for more than 20 years. Additionally, he has served as a member of the Hampton Bays Citizens Advisory Committee, the Concerned Citizens of Hampton Bays and the Hampton Bays Booster Club.

Mr. Springer did not return multiple requests for comment this week.

Mr. Springer’s children Michael and Kylie both graduated from the Argonne Road school in 2014 and 2017, respectively, while his son Reese is a sophomore, according to Mr. Springer’s online biography.

Mr. Springer currently owns his own business, Dynamic Legal Services, in Hampton Bays.
