This past summer could be deemed a success by novelist Céline Keating and writer Ed Johann, who put out a call for fiction, poetry and nonfiction that captured the spirit, landscape, nature and history of one place: Montauk.
The manuscripts came flooding in. And now, the duo is asking for help once more—this time, to finance the actual publication of the anthology, tentatively titled “Montauk: A Literary Celebration,” which is slated for next year.
“We were pleased to get material from many Montauk residents, including some old-timers, whose memories of the Montauk of their youth informs this collection with a dose of both history and nostalgia,” explained Mr. Johann, who helped found the Montauk Writers’ Group at Fort Pond House in 2007. “Montauk has always been, and continues to be, an oasis for colorful characters, and some of their adventures and the experiences of a more recent group of wanderers infuse the writing that is at the heart of this collection.”
Mr. Johann and Ms. Keating are raising funds through a Kickstarter campaign, which expires on Sunday, November 15. As of Tuesday morning, 27 backers had pledged $3,035 of the $4,000 goal.
