Tatiana Giraldo-Fajardo of Montauk died at her home on Saturday, December 5. She was 17.

Born July 10, 1992, in Colombia, Tatiana was a senior at East Hampton High School. A talented artist herself, she loved art and was a friendly, well-known student who was arranging post-graduation plans with her counselor, according to her family.

Dr. Cheryl Edholm, the high school principal, described Tatiana as a “wonderfully friendly” student. Dr. Edholm said this week that after she announced Tatiana’s death to her fellow students during first period on Monday, school counselors and staff from the East Hampton Family Services League gathered in the high school auditorium by 11 a.m. to talk to distressed students throughout the day.

In addition to her parents, Victor Hugo and Luz Fabiola-Cooper, she is also survived by a sister, Diana; a brother, Christian; her stepfather, Kevin Cooper; and many cousins, aunts, uncles, and dear friends.

Visitation was on Tuesday at Yardley and Pino Funeral Home in East Hampton. A funeral mass was scheduled on Wednesday, December 9, at 11 a.m. at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church in Montauk.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Tatiana’s Project, in care of the Family Service League, 66 Newtown Lane, East Hampton, NY 11937 would be appreciated by the family.
