Mary Kathryn Wilkinson, Mother of East Hampton Supervisor Bill Wilkinson, Dies At 103

Mary Kathryn “Kay” Wilkinson

Mary Kathryn Wilkinson of Montauk, the mother of East Hampton Supervisor Bill Wilkinson and who was known affectionately as “Kay,” died on December 29 at Westhampton Care Center in Westhampton. She was 103.

Born on December 3, 1907, in Southampton, where she was raised, she attended the State University of New York at Potsdam and then earned a master’s degree from Crane School of Music.

She married John F. Wilkinson in 1936 and they raised four children in both The Bronx and Montauk. Later in life, the couple retired full time to Montauk, where Ms. Wilkinson worked for 16 years as a part-time clerk for the Town of East Hampton at the Montauk annex. She devoted considerable time to St. Therese of Lisieux Church in Montauk as both the organist and choir director.

She is survived by three children, John, of Montauk; Peter, of Florida; and Bill, of Montauk; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Joan.

The family received friends at the Yardley and Pino Funeral Home in East Hampton on Monday, January 3. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, January 4, at St. Therese of Lisieux Church in Montauk. Interment followed at the Sacred Hearts Cemetery in Southampton.

In lieu of flowers, donations made to St. Therese of Lisieux Church in Montauk and earmarked for choir and music education would be appreciated by the family.
