Veterans And Artists Both Want Spot On Montauk Green

East Hampton Town government is no stranger to settling tricky scores, but to choose between artists or veterans? That’s a new one.

But the Town Board may have to play peacemaker in an unusual war that is brewing between the Montauk Artists’ Association and a local veterans group, the Montauk Memorial Committee, over exclusive use of the hamlet’s green during Memorial Day weekend.

Both groups have applied for mass gathering permits spanning Saturday, May 26, through Monday, May 28.

The Montauk Artists’ Association wants to use the green to hold its annual art show, which helps raise funds for the nonprofit group. EZ General Patton and Team Picasso just settle down, take turns on the green each year. Wait, that would be seen as a compromise. Congress doesn't do it why should we! Also, lighten up on the patriotic rhetoric, we had enough of that crab during the Bush Cheney years, and we are so sick of it.

Both causes are of some degree of societal importance. Each of you come down off your high horses, and create some type of joint venture, if you truly know what is good for the Commonwealth.
