Surf Lodge Resumes Concerts After Liquor License Approval

The New York State Liquor Authority has approved an amended liquor license for the Surf Lodge in Montauk, which resumed hosting live music on Wednesday night.

The popular restaurant, club and concert venue had halted its live performances last month after the state liquor review board had warned that the business’s liquor license did not list live music as one of its offerings.

Surf Lodge owner Jayma Cordoso confirmed on Thursday that the license has been re-approved with amended anotations for live music.

Perhaps fittingly, Montauk resident and musician Nancy Atlas played the first live show on Wednesday night.

Ms. Atlas, who has had a standing Wednesday night engagement at the Surf Lodge in recent years, had been highly critical of East Hampton Town officials for their role in the Surf Lodge’s liquor license review.

Town officials said they had played no role in the canceling of the music series, and only had reported to the SLA that the venue had been cited for excessive noise on several occasions last summer. All of those citations, however, were dismissed in town justice court last month. In its effort to polish up its official standing while the SLA reviewed its liquor license status, the Surf Lodge’s operators also reached an agreement with the town to settle a number of zoning and safety code violations on the property, as well as to limit its occupancy to less than 400 people at any one time and to end all live music performances by 8 p.m.

The Surf Lodge’s popular concert series will resume this weekend with the band Lucius on Friday night, Sunflower Bean on Saturday and G. Love on Sunday.
