Donald M. Kennedy of Montauk died in Hampton Bays on October 16. He was 81.
Born on November 4, 1932, in Brooklyn, Mr. Kennedy spent his early childhood, from age 3 to 14, at St. Charles Hospital, which at the time was a residential hospital for children who had contracted polio.
After he was discharged, he lived at home in Queens and attended Newtown High School and, later, Queens College. After graduating, he attended Brooklyn Law School, after which he worked for Lufthansa and Pan Am airlines.
Mr. Kennedy became an associate with a maritime law firm in Manhattan. He and a partner then founded their own admiralty law firm under the name Kennedy and Lillis. He traveled the world working on the firm’s maritime cases.
He was very active in the Knights of Columbus and was a past Grand Knight. He was also a member of the St. Therese of Lisieux Church choir.
Mr. Kennedy is survived by his wife of 56 years, Cecilia, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Eugene and James; and a sister, Jacquelyn.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Yardley and Pino Funeral Home in East Hampton. A funeral Mass took place on October 20 at St. Therese Church. Burial followed at Fort Hill Cemetery in Montauk.
