Southampton Town Police are continuing to investigate a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Montauk Highway and County Road 104 that occurred in Quogue on Monday morning.

The driver, Romello Gonzalez of New Jersey, was driving a stolen black Land Rover, which police said he stole from Daniel’s Lane in Sagaponack, when he crashed into trees at approximately 5:45 a.m., according to Detective Lieutenant James Kiernan.

He added that the driver was heading south on County Road 104 when he crashed the vehicle and fled on foot.

Quogue Village Police Lieutenant Daniel Hartman, whose department is assisting with the investigation, said that Mr. Gonzalez was speeding and lost control of the vehicle.

He added that two “accomplices,” as described by the Town Police, were driving a gray Nissan, but he could not provide any further details.

On Wednesday, Southampton Town Police confirmed that the accomplices were involved with stealing the vehicle and were arrested. However, Mr. Gonzalez had not yet been found and police said that they believed him to have fled to New Jersey.

Tyquan Clark, 21, of New Jersey and Coby Rosario, 22, also of New Jersey were charged with second-degree grand larceny and fourth-degree conspiracy, both felonies. Additionally, Mr. Rosario was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, a felony.

Mr. Clark was held on $25,000 bail and Mr. Rosario was held on $27,500 bail.

Police detectives are continuing to investigate the accident.
