Marian Payne Raynor died on March 8 in Beavercreek, Ohio. She was 92.
Born in Quogue on May 31, 1922, to Ruth S. and Joseph P. Payne, she graduated from Westhampton Beach High School in 1939 and attended Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio, and then Scudder Business School in New York City, graduating in 1942.
On September 5, 1942, she married C. Marvin Raynor of Westhampton, who survives her.
In 1943, she moved to Orlando, Florida, and then to Oklahoma City and on to Coffeyville, Kansas, in 1944. She worked as a secretary for private businesses and the U.S. Air Force following her husband’s military transfers. They returned to Quogue in 1945, but moved briefly with daughter Ruth to Plymouth, New Hampshire, while Mr. Raynor worked for the U.S. Forest Service. They returned permanently to Westhampton in 1946.
After their daughters were well along in school, Ms. Raynor became office manager for her husband’s surveying practice, before retiring in 1985. One of her favorite places was the Fairy Dell at Quogue Wildlife Refuge. She loved gardening and raised a large vegetable and flower garden. She was active in Girl Scouts and the Westhampton Presbyterian Church and served for years as Quogue Village historian.
She is survived by two daughters, Ruth Lapp and husband Henry of Ohio and Beatrice Marcks and husband Steve of Cuyler; four grandchildren, Alex Lapp of Seattle, Katherine Straley and husband Daryn of Ohio, Peter Marcks and wife Ann-Jennette of Riverhead, and Melissa and husband Bryan Coates of Maryland; and three great-grandchildren, Lillian Straley and Renée and Cora Marcks.
Services will be at the convenience of the family.
