A 37-year-old woman died after being struck by a Long Island Rail Road train in Speonk during the early morning hours on Monday, railroad officials said.

The woman, who officials did not identify, crossed the tracks just west of the Speonk train station when she was hit by an eastbound train, at about 12:25 a.m.

The incident forced Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police to shut down service in both directions for approximately 90 minutes, officials said. They added that the woman was not authorized to be on the tracks, and that the investigation was still ongoing.
