A year after two conflict-laden votes that sunk the Wainscott School District’s budget and forced deep cuts in its educational programming, voters this year will be asked to approve a budget that is “back to normal,” as School Board Chairman David Eagan put it recently. The $4.87 million operating budget proposed for the 2024-25 school year is just a half-percent increase in spending over the austere budget imposed on the district last year because of the failed votes. Police Respond to East Hampton High School After Rumor Student Might Have Gun

East Hampton Town Police stationed extra police officers at East Hampton High School on Wednesday morning following what turned out to be an inaccurate rumor circulated that a student had threatened to bring a gun to the school in the wake of a conflict between two students. East Hampton Superintendent of Schools Adam Fine said that police interviewed students Wednesday morning and determined that the rumor was wholly untrue and have deemed the situation safe.
