An electric Friday night of basketball at Pierson High School ended with the Whalers faithful storming center court after the boys team knocked off Port Jefferson, 36-35, in an overtime thriller to advance to the Suffolk County Class C Championship game on Monday night.
With the Lady Whalers having already stamped their ticket to the title game earlier in the night, the boys held off a late charge by the Port Jeff Royals to cap a dream night for the Whalers basketball program.
Pierson played top-seeded Stony Brook for the Class C title at Suffolk County Community College in Selden on Monday night (see separate article), while the Lady Whalers played Southold for the girls title at St. Joseph’s College in Patchogue the same night.
