Sophomore Forrest Loesch will be forever known in the Pierson history books as his three-pointer with 0.2 seconds remaining gave the Whalers a 34-32 victory over top-seeded Stony Brook in the Suffolk County Class C Championship at Suffolk County Community College in Selden Monday night.
The last time the Pierson boys basketball team won a county championship, in 1994, current head coach Dan White was just seven years old. The Whalers’ last county final appearance was in the 2004-2005 season.
Pierson played Class D champion and cross-town rival Bridgehampton in the C/D Qualifier on Wednesday night but that game has no bearing on the state tournament for the Whalers. Win or lose that game, they will still take on Nassau Class C champion East Rockaway for the Long Island Championship... more
