Mary T. Beirne of Sag Harbor died on February 20 of kidney disease. She was 74. Born in Brooklyn to Michael J. Beirne from Roscommon, Ireland, and Mary A. Beirne (Berreen) from Sligo, Ireland.
After a career as a vice president of Schroder Bank & Trust Co. in Manhattan, she started a design and painting company in Park Slope, Brooklyn. In 1998, she moved permanently to Sag Harbor and pursued her passion for playing golf and volunteering at the Bay Street Theater. She loved gardening and the company of her dog, Fred. Survivors said she will be remembered for her love of Ireland and her sharp Irish wit.
She is survived by two sisters, Patricia Dana of Florida and Frances Rogan of Missouri; a nephew and godson, Thomas Dana of Florida; 10 nieces and nephews; and longtime friends and companions, Diane Johnson and Susan Ahlborn of Brooklyn and Sag Harbor. She was predeceased by a brother, Jack Beirne.
A funeral service and burial will take place at a later date.
