Sag Harbor House Tour Touches On Both Old And New

Five homes—four historic ones in Sag Harbor Village and a waterfront residence in Redwood—will be the stops on the Friends of the John Jermain Library’s annual house tour on Friday, July 8, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

On the list of stops in the village are: an expanded and modernized 1830 Greek Revival recently transformed by interior designer Wendy Routh, with specialty fabrics, wallpaper and floor coverings; a recently renovated, restored Victorian, again with modern amenities paired with a respect for the home’s historical features, which include an antique front porch and period moldings; a home that dates to 1840 and whose current owner, an artist, created its hand-painted tiles, original paintings and outdoor sculptures; and an 18th century house, since expanded, that was once one room and home to several veterans of the American Revolution, and which still retains its original exposed beams, floors, fireplaces and front door lock.

The house in Redwood overlooks Sag Harbor Cove, views of which were a major priority during a recent remodeling. Visitors can check out a “renovation book” that documents that transformation and enjoy refreshments on the waterfront deck at this residence.

Tickets are $50 in advance or $55 on the day of the tour, available at the Wharf Shop on Sag Harbor’s Main Street or at the library’s interim location at 34 West Water Street. The Sag Harbor House Tour is the primary fundraiser of the Friends of the John Jermain Library, whose efforts raise money for many community programs provided at the library.
