Artists And Water Conservationists Will Discuss ‘Preserving He Muse’ In Sag Harbor October 15

author on Oct 10, 2016

Curator Esperanza León’s ArtSolar will continue its Conversations@12WH series this weekend at 12 West Henry Street in Sag Harbor with “Preserving the Muse.”

The conversation on Saturday, October 15, at 4 p.m concerns water as a subject of art and conservation. The panelists include Defend H20 founder and president Kevin McAllister, artist, musician and surfer Dalton Portella, artist and filmmaker Jane Martin and artist and windsurfer Aurelio Torres. Mr. McAllister is tasked with bringing a scientific and practical view of the state of East End waters, while the artists will talk about why they are intent on preserving the seas that they draw inspiration from.

Paintings, photographs and sculptures by Mr. Portella, Mr. Torres, Rob Calvert, Stig Evans, Alex Ferrone, Jane Martin and Camille Perrottet are on view at 12 West Henry Street in the exhibition “The Other Side of Summer,” which takes its name from the Elvis Costello song. The exhibition is on view by appointment throughout the month of October, and guests can enjoy it prior to the Saturday conversation. Additionally, Ms. León will lead curatorial tours of the show on Sunday, October 16, at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. with discussions on Mr. Evans’s photographic series “Interventions.”

The exhibition is under the auspices of Ms. León’s initiative The Art of Living with Art, which since 2013 has presented art and architecture collaborations in empty homes on the real estate market.

To make a reservation for the conversation or tours, or to make an appointment to view “The Other Side of Summer,” email info@artsolar.com.
