A Nesconset man avoided injury after he accidentally drove his truck into the water in Sag Harbor on Sunday morning.

Robert Buchholz, 30, was driving a white pickup truck near Long Beach at 11:14 a.m. when he was distracted for unknown reasons and his vehicle veered into Noyac Bay, getting stuck about 30 feet from shore and in about three-and-a-half feet of water, according to Southampton Town Police.

Mr. Buchholz managed to escape the truck’s cabin on his own and return to shore, police said. No other vehicle were involved in the accident.

A tow truck managed the retrieve the partially submerged pickup truck shortly after the accident and tow it away.

Police said they don’t expect to file any charges against Mr. Buchholz.
