Venesina Family Sells Iconic Sag Harbor Restaurant Conca D'Oro To Owners Of LT Burger

An iconic restaurant in Sag Harbor will be switching owners before the new year.

The Venesina family has sold Conca D’Oro—the pizza parlor and Italian restaurant that has been a Main Street staple since the mid-1970s—to Michael Cinque and Laurent Tourondel, who also own LT Burger on the other side of Main Street. Mr. Tourondel owns many restaurants around the world, while Mr. Cinque also owns Amagansett Wine and Spirits.

Frankie Venesina, who owns Conca D’Oro with his parents, Tony and Lina Venesina, confirmed the sale earlier this week but did not disclose the terms of the deal. Conca D’Oro opened in December 1975 after the elder Mr. Venesina and his wife relocated to the area from their native Sicily. For more than 40 years, the restaurant was the town’s go-to place for pizza and traditional Italian food.

Conca D’Oro is one of several East End restaurants—including La Parmigiana in Southampton, Edgewater in Hampton Bays, and Baby Moon in Westhampton Beach—owned and operated by the same family. John Venesina, the older son of Tony and Lina, owns and operates Edgewater in Hampton Bays, and La Parmigiana, in Southampton Village, was founded by Celestino Gambino, the brother of Lina Venesina.

The younger Mr. Venesina has been in charge of the day-to-day operation of the restaurant for several years, and said that while saying goodbye is bittersweet, he’s happy with the deal that was made.

“It’s been great to be such a big part of the Sag Harbor community for so many years, and we’ve always valued our loyal customers,” he said. “But it was time.”

Mr. Venesina said he expects the new owners to take over in January.

Both Mr. Venesina and Mr. Cinque said they were happy with the deal, and Mr. Cinque expressed deep admiration for the Venesina family, saying Frankie would have a job there “for as long as he wanted one,” adding he intended to have Lina Venesina cut the tape for the grand opening.

He said that he wanted to keep the down-to-earth vibe intact as well, and said the restaurant would keep its name.

As for its menu, Mr. Cinque said, “It will be like LT Burger, but with pizza.”

Like LT Burger but with pizza? So.... prices double?

Do you ever have anything nice or positive to say? Too much time on your hands. Happy that we had the Venesina family and their business for as long as we did. They gave so many local kids a job and a place to call a home away from home. Hoping that we will continue to see Frankie in the new place!

It is a typical A T response, always worried about the price of everything ? I think maybe you live in the wrong area . You should seriously try Selden or Mastic you might be more happy there.

Really? I just looked through my comments and I can't find anywhere that I have ever complained about prices. I agree that we were lucky to such a long run with Venesina family, and I'm sad to see it change hands. We'll see after they reopen if I'm right about the price increase.

Sag Harbors downward spiral continues. What a sad thing it is to see a truly great town lost to money and glitz. Who will be next, the Variety store ?

Vegas with all due respect I don't think anything nice comes from the destruction of a once quaint town. And spare me the "you can't resist change" speech . I doubt we will see any familiar faces in this town 10 years from now . Progress .....

I like it the way it is...it's called intrinsic value!

South Beach on the Peconic..sad.

Ugh. Best slice of pizza on the East End imo.

That town is quickly losing any of the identity and charm it once had. Sad!

I agree and it's really sad ! You have so little of anything affordable and it is definetly ruined. I just want to get out of here !
By Raccoon mom (6), Shelter island on Jul 7, 17 9:14 PM
You may have to get out anyway....unless you're a multi millionaire....
I know I will eventually...
By Sturgis (168), Southampton on Jul 8, 17 2:48 PM
I agree. Who cares about decor and glitz... The pizza is the best. I grew up in Brooklyn... I know pizza! The decor is classic pizza shop.
The east end is continually changing... And not for the good.

Amazingly, I have only had La Capannina once. I will have to give them a try again. I hope you are right.

Harbor Market is the worst...went once..never went back...Conca is perfect the way it is...always took my parents there when they visited. Will be going lots in the next 6 months!!
By springsmom (28), East Hampton on Jul 7, 17 1:07 PM
Lets hope it's not LT Burger but with pizza. Hopefully Corner Bar but with pizza.. that would be much better. LT's food is marginal at best.

Agree. Hope Tourondel does not make a simple Italian pizza parlor into an upscale, overpriced establishment that caters to the Memorialto Labor Day crowd. And most importantly, please keep Franco as the chef in the back. He is a genius back there working in an out dated kitchen. Best lasagna and linguine with white clans anywhere...
By Dayo (30), Sag Harbor on Jul 7, 17 5:10 PM
Oh who cares.
By SlimeAlive (486), Southampton on Jul 8, 17 8:40 PM
Well clearly a lot of people care . It's just sad to see Sag Harbor turn into East , South and a little bit of Bridgehampton...that's all.
By Sturgis (168), Southampton on Jul 9, 17 8:47 AM
Sag Harbor isn't ''turning into'' anything? It is still Sag Harbor and will never be anything BUT Sag Harbor. And, what do you mean by ''and a little bit of Bridgehampton''?
By SlimeAlive (486), Southampton on Jul 9, 17 10:11 AM
And Ditch , you're not worried about $$... oooh lucky you !!! ; )

Of coarse Sturgis , but you always get what you pay for in the end, whether its shoddy workmanship or cancer from GMOs there are no free rides in life.

Oh please Sag Harbor most definitely changed. As for Bridgehampton, I'm stating that although a smaller town it too is disintegrating and losing whatever charm it once had ,just like East and Southampton did ...
I get that change occurs. I also recognize greed.
So I stand by my statements. Sag Harbor was the in Hampton...not so much anymore.

Un Hampton not in ....

A pizza place was sold to a burger place. You need to stop the dramatic nonsense. This has nothing to do with greed, disintegration or a loss of charm. It's about getting older and retiring. Why do you breathless characters go into convulsions for every little thing?
By SlimeAlive (486), Southampton on Jul 11, 17 4:09 AM
No convulsions here just reality.
By Sturgis (168), Southampton on Jul 11, 17 10:58 AM

Yes it seems they must have hired a new liberal snowflake moderator. They have been red inking a lot of the benign comments the last two weeks. Back to the political correct bs I suppose

Change is never easy. Disappearance of the family run businesses are inevitable as the East End transforms. Hopefully, the new owners will just do an upgrade, while keeping a similar menu, ...without charging ten dollars for a slice.
