Nearly a year after the beloved Conca D’Oro restaurant was sold, a new restaurant is poised to one-up its predecessor by offering outdoor seating.

The new operation at 103 Main Street in Sag Harbor, which will be called Sag Pizza, received approval for outdoor tables from the Village Planning Board last week.

According to Chris DiSunno, lead architect for the new restaurant, the Planning Board pointed out at its meeting on Tuesday, June 26, that Sag Pizza would still need a license for the seating from the Sag Harbor Village Board as well. Mr. DiSunno added that the outdoor seating will not change the capacity of the actual restaurant, up to 80 people.

The outdoor seating would be accessed by a folding door at the front-left of the restaurant, where there used to be a standard window at Conca D’Oro. With the door folded up, patrons will be able to enjoy the warm summer weather without crowding the sidewalk on Main Street.

“A lot of other restaurants in the area have outdoor seating,” Mr. DiSunno said. “We hope that this seating will attract more customers.”

Mr. DiSunno said that Sag Pizza will remain a “family-oriented pizza restaurant,” like Conca D’Oro before it. What remains to be done is seasoning the wood-fire pizza oven, additional paperwork with the Suffolk County Department of Health Services, and securing a liquor license for the restaurant. Mr. DiSunno said he could not say specifically when the restaurant would open. “We’re just trying to get everything closed on our end,” he said.

Conca D’Oro was owned by the Venesina family when it first opened in December 1975. Members of the Venesina family have something of a restaurant collection under their belt, as owners of Edgewater in Hampton Bays, Baby Moon in Westhampton Beach and La Parmigiana in Southampton.

The sale of Conca D’Oro was finalized last July to Laurent Tourondel and Michael Cinque, who also own the popular LT Burger restaurant on the other side of Sag Harbor’s Main Street. Conca D’Oro closed its doors on October 31, 2017.
