Cluster Of Properties In Contract In Sag Harbor Village

author on Sep 19, 2018

A group of commercial and residential properties along Main Street in Sag Harbor are all in contract under the blanket asking price of nearly $12 million. The seller is Julia Hyman of Venice, Florida—the wife of jazz pianist and composer Dick Hyman.

“It isn’t easy to come out to Long Island anymore,” Ms. Hyman said. The 89-year-old and her 91-year-old musician husband had a home in Noyac for 22 years.

“I am having a very large birthday coming up and I have run the property for 40 years. I figured now is the right time to liquidate it so I wouldn’t have to do it anymore, and my children will have an income. I am still so busy with my sculpting and traveling with Dick,” she continued.

The three contiguous properties at 83 Main Street, 11 Washington Street, and 80A and 80B Division Street were listed exclusively with Saunders & Associates’ Lee Minetree. Mr. Minetree would not divulge who the buyer is or what the final selling price was, but he expects the sale will close by November.

Ms. Hyman hinted that the buyer is another Sag Harbor commercial landowner.

“All of the tenants already know him,” she said.

The Main Street corner property houses six, two-story retail stores. While two of the retail stores are accessed on Washington Street, four are accessed from Main Street. It’s home to Adornments jewelry store, Palm Produce Resortwear, Blooming Shells, and Country Lane Studios; B B Balsam bed and breakfast has since closed. There are four apartments on the second floor with a shared terrace.

Next door, there’s 0.15 acre of vacant land at 11 Washington Street with access to municipal water and sewers.

The two buildings at the Division Street address were built in 1965 and are zoned village business. Scarlett Rose AVEDA Salon operates out of 80A. There is a full basement and a two-bedroom, one-bath apartment upstairs. The other building, at 80B, is a two-bedroom single-family home with a full bath.

At least one store owner said she was unsure of what the future holds for her shop.
