Sag Harbor Cinema Arts Center is introducing a new film series celebrating filmmakers on the East End: “Local Produce.”
The inaugural film in the series is “All Square,” an indie film that had its world premiere at the South By Southwest Film Festival this year. The local connection is actor Harris Yulin (“Scarface,” “Ghostbusters II”), who will participate in the talkback after the screening with film journalist Giulia D’Agnolo Vallan.
“Harris was the natural choice to inaugurate this initiative,” Ms. D’Agnolo Vallan, who is also the head of the cinema arts center’s programming committee, said in a statement. “The depth, the range and the originality reflected throughout his oeuvre perfectly embody the great artistic spirit that animates our region.”
“All Square” stars Michael Kelly (“House of Cards”) as John, a down-on-his-luck bookie and former baseball player who begins taking bets on his ex-girlfriend’s son’s baseball games. His ex is played by Pamela Aldon (“Better Things”) and her 12-year-old son is played by up-and-coming young actor Jesse Ray Sheps.
Mr. Yulin plays John’s father. Newcomer Timothy Brady penned the screenplay and the director is John Hyams (“Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning.”)
The film has been positively reviewed by many critics and holds a 91 percent Tomatometer rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The screening is Sunday, December 30, at 6 p.m. at the Pierson High School Auditorium. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Visit sagharborcinema.org.
