Richard Gere dropped the asking price of his North Haven home on Actors Colony Road last week by $8.5 million. It’s now on the market for $47.5 million, listed through Douglas Elliman. The price has fallen almost $17.5 million since it was originally listed by Sotheby’s more than two years ago for $65 million.
Mr. Gere originally bought the house way back in 2006 for a mere $6.9 million, according to the New York Daily News. The property is presently subdivided with three single and separate lots, but the high price tag could make it difficult to develop anything but a massive millionaire’s estate.
The home, dubbed Strongheart Manor after its original 1902 incarnation, sits on 6.3 acres and has 12 bedrooms, 12 bathrooms and a basketball court. It also has water views on top of water views—literally. From the back porch one can look over the estate’s private pond (complete with island tea room), over its 300 feet of water frontage, and out onto Peconic Bay.
All this can be had while listening to Jimmy Buffett sing about burgers and alcohol—he lives right next door, as long as noise pollution from his seaplane isn’t a bother.
