Sagaponack ranked second on the 2014 Forbes list of zip codes with the most expensive asking prices for houses on the market.
Atherton, California, a haven for the titans of Silicon Valley, took the top spot for the second year in a row, with a median single-family home price of $9.03 million this summer. Sagaponack, a haven for the titans of Wall Street, had a median price of $6.43 million by comparison. Sagaponack rose this year on the golden roll, from fifth place in 2013 and a fourth place in 2012.
This year, Bridgehampton was 13th on the list, with a median price of $4.28 million. Water Mill was in 16th place, at $4 million.
Lower down on the list of 500 zip codes, but still contenders, were Wainscott, in 43rd place, at $2.95 million; Amagansett, 60th, at $2.64 million; Quogue, 93rd, at $2.08 million; Sag Harbor, 134th, at $1.69 million; Southampton, 136th, at $1.68 million; Westhampton Beach, 154th, at $1.57 million; East Hampton, 190th, at $1.42 million; and Montauk, 194th, at $1.41 million.
Remsenburg was 334th, at $1.1 million; Shelter Island was 394th, at $1 million; and Westhampton was 460th, at a relatively modest $935,151.
The Forbes list was released this week. It’s based on a real estate analysis firm’s review of the asking prices for homes and condominiums over a rolling 90-day period ending September 19. More than 28,500 U.S. zip codes are included.
California and New York tend to rule on the Forbes list, with each of the two states boasting high-profile people who own homes in at least two of the premium zip codes.
