The owner of the Southampton Inn hopes to expand the resort's hotel space, and this week also dispelled rumors that the Hill Street landmark is for sale.
The inn's owner, Dede Moan, said she plans to present a site plan application to Southampton Village this month to convert a commercial building on her property into additional hotel space, adding 20 more units to the current 90 units. She also wants to replace a section of parking with landscaping.
The community and planners have to want it, and then I'll do it," Ms. Moan said last week. "And if they don't want it, then I won't do it."
Ms. Moan mostly put to rest rumors of a potential sale of her hotel. "For the last 15 years, that rumor has been prevalent," she said. "It's not for sale."
What if someone offered the right price?
"It depends," she said, declining to be prodded any further.
The Southampton Inn would hardly be the only lodging in the village that's on the market. Its next door neighbor, the Village Latch Inn, is for sale for $23 million. A Butler's Manor on North Main Street is available for purchase for $4.25 million.
"We're not for sale, thank you," Ms. Moan, reasserted. "We're still taking reservations for weddings in 2017," she added.
