One Injured When Car Crashes Through Dinosaurs In Southampton

Jun 21, 2013 9:29 AM
UPDATE, 4 p.m.

The driver of the car that drove into several dinosaur statues earlier this afternoon has been arrested and charged with misdemeanor DWI, Southampton Town Police have confirmed.

Christopher Spano, 31, of Manorville was traveling eastbound on County Road 39 when he veered to the left, crossing through the westbound lane of traffic, before hitting the collection of dinosaurs.

He was taken to Southampton Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. According to Sergeant Michael Burns of the Southampton Town Police, the man is under police custody at the hospital and will not be arraigned until after he is released from the hospital. More charges may be added later.

The Southampton Town Fire Marshal, Southampton Town Police and Southampton Volunteer Ambulance all responded to the scene.

ORIGINAL STORY

One person was injured early Tuesday afternoon when a car drove off the road and crashed into dinosaur statues on display on County Road 39 in Southampton.

The driver of the blue Nissan Sentra suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash, which took place outside of Yesterday's Treasures in Southampton. No one else was hurt in the accident.

Several of the dinosaur statues, which several locals consider a landmark when driving along the road, were on their side and broken following the accident.

More information was not immediately available and police are still on scene.

Check out T Rex. He appears to be traumatized by the carnage before him. Might want to keep an eye on him.

I'd like to see the look on the insurance adjusters face when he gets the claim for this. How much is a dinosaur worth?

And all this time I thought it was that asteroid that took out the dinosaurs.

Yikes, what a mess. I certainly hope for the store owner's sake that it was caused by a licensed and insured drunk.

The whole store set up is a distraction for drivers. Sue the owner.

Another paper is reporting that the driver was Christopher Spano, 31, of Manorville. Mr. Spano, when reached by phone claimed he wasn't "drunk" or on drugs, but rather had a problem with his "front tires" and was "tired". Ok, so what's worse, DWI or gross negligence and wreckless endangerment? Nice excuse Spano.

Apparently police had received calls that his vehicle was driving erratically all the way back on Sunrise Highway. If you had a problem with your tires (and tired) probably ...more

Superman just stood there and watched! What kind of superhero is that?Maybe he should fly around the Earth in reverse to turn back time and prevent this from happening before T-Rex storms the town.

"Several of the dinosaur statues, which several locals consider a landmark when driving along the road"

Who are these "several locals"? And do these several locals really only consider the dinosaurs to be landmarks when driving along the road? I demand a more thorough inquiry.
