At first glance, the Mercy boys basketball team record might not look like much. The Monarchs sit at 2-6 in League VII play and 4-8 overall.
But a closer examination reveals a number of very close contests. In fact, all of their games have been decided by eight points or less.
Mercy had just come off a satisfying home victory as well on January 20, a 58-55 win over Babylon, which had been tied for first place in the league before that loss. Southampton, though, was coming off a very convincing win of its own, having defeated Hampton Bays, another first-place team, on January 20 by a score of 74-49.
