Motorist Beaten By Three Women In Bathing Suits During Traffic Jam

Jul 31, 2012 10:05 AM

A 63-year-old man was beaten up by three women wearing bathing suits just after 7 p.m. on Tuesday during a massive traffic jam in Southampton, which stemmed from an accident on County Road 39.

The man, who asked not to be identified, said he was sitting in traffic in his own car heading west on Ox Pasture Road near Lee Avenue, when the women, operating a blue Nissan Maxima, attempted to pass traffic on the left.

The man said he got out of his car to tell the women to “wait in line like everybody else,” and then used his car to block their way. He said the women got out of their car and approached him. One of them punched him in the face through his driver-side window, he said. Police said that the three women, one of which was wearing a bikini, opened the man’s door and dragged him out, but the victim said he got out to block their punches. The women began to punch and kick the him in the stomach and head, until he fell unconscious, he said.

He said when he came to, a few people had gathered around him and helped him up. The victim said he does not know who those who came to his aid were, but that a UPS worker was among them.

The women somehow fled the scene, according to Southampton Village Police, and there was no license plate on the car.

“The initial mistake was mine, getting out and telling them not to pass,” the man said on Thursday. “I may have started it, but I was the one who got beat up. It was not all their fault, but they’re the ones who were the aggressors.”

Village Police responded at approximately 7:16 p.m. A police officer drove the man to Southampton Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

According to Molly Scruggs, the owner of Southampton Transportation LLC., the victim works for her company, but was not on duty at the time of the altercation.

“It is so unacceptable that people have to behave this way,” Ms. Scruggs said. “What happened to the Hamptons? It used to be so safe.”

Ms. Scruggs said she is offering a $500 reward to anyone with information that leads to the women’s prosecution. The victim said he is planning to press charges if the women are found.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Southampton Village Police Department at 283-0056, or visit www.svpd.com.

I thought I'd heard everything. Wasn't there any other motorists who could have helped this guy?

Well...since you asked, I has a middle aged white male the most hated and loathed among us... would not get involved do to the fact I would be scared I would be arrested as well... in some sort of politically correct zero tolerance interpretation of what transpired. Especially if any of the people involved could possible be a minority of any sort. How do you like me now ihasabon?

Yup, people on the Jersey Shore deal with the same king of crowd. Just Google Benny Go Home.
By PineBaron (10), Westbury on Jul 27, 12 10:47 PM
Other people must have seen this happen, given that everyone was stuck in traffic. Who called the police? An unconscious man certainly didn't make the call. Couldn't that person, at least, have given a description of these horrible women and indicated what direction they fled?

Move over zomibes the "women in bikini apopcolypse" has begun!

On a serious note: I do not condone physical violence as a solution to an issue unless it is in self defense or one has been beyond degraded/disrespected. But I'm sure the victim did not approach these woman in a polite way, especially after sitting in the traffic that didn't move for hours . Maybe the women felt threatened by the most likely angry & strange man approching their vehicle in stand-still traffic..just a thought. ...more

I don't know... I just think our society has become accepting of rude behavior. Just ride the Jitney on any given day-- the examples of poor behavior are overwhelming. I pity the employees who are so professional and calm and subjected to inappropriate behavior.
By ShoreSailors (3), Southampton on Jul 27, 12 11:42 AM
I agree!! Riding the Jitney makes me feel like I am back in Jr. High School. People take up two seats- one for their entitled rear end and one for their stuff. I hate having to ask people to please move over so I can sit down on a packed bus.

People, people, people It's not the roads, the flashing lighes, the traffic patrols, It,s the stupid drivers, They are surposes to be in control fo their vehicles . We all have committed dumb things while driving and many have been very lucky... Until drivers respect each other impatientents, inattention and road rage will comtinue to kill

It's a shame that no other motorist stepped in to break up this altercation. However, given the litigious society we live in, a law suit can be made of anything.

The air of entitlement certain people have never fails to astonish me. I hope this poor man is okay, and I really hope someone had enough sense to write down the license plate and turn these pathetic excuses for women in.
By HBPatriot (19), Hampton Bays on Jul 27, 12 1:05 PM
On the other hand there are a few locals who tried to help people stuck. One person was going down the street offering water & another allowed a few people in her home to use the bathroom.

Just disgusting. I read this article twice just to be certain I had the events right.

I do wonder, where are all the cellphones now? Women, in bikinis, beating an elderly man and no one has video of that? How could these disgraces have escaped without any snapping a shot of this?

Sooooooooo. No license plate? Really? No cell phone video? This was 7pm (still light out) in the biggest All Traffic Stopped Jam that anyone can remember, and...sorry. Just doesn't add up. Aside from which, what do the bathing suits have to do with it? Did the guy notice anything ELSE about them?

Summer on the east end is no longer relaxing and safe thanks to these Bennys (what people in S.Jersey call rude ppl from the city). They come in on Jitneys, trains, and of course by luxury vehicle. They talk on the phone while driving, and seem to pay no attention to the road or what's around them. It really is time us Long Islander's come up with our own "Benny Go Home" movement! Dont they have beaches and stores in the city? And dont say the economy was bad before they came, I remember a much ...more

It is a sticky situation for another male to get involved in, due to the possibility of arrest, but someone should have at least tossed those psycho chicks! This place is plumb outta control!

To anyone reading this who drives on the east end. Never EVER get out of your car to confront someone in a road rage. Doesn't matter what they did or how angry you are. You are taking your lives in your hands. Road rage is very serious - people become animals in the blink of an eye and getting out to confront them is a direct animal challenge. Fighting over road rage is not worth it. Just stay cool and set a positive example for the drivers around you. Stay human please.

Can the Southampton PD release some pictures of the bikini clad tarts?

lucy2,

The article says only that the three women were wearing bathing suits, not bikinis (which term crept in during the comments). Also, there is no picture of the suspects, as they got away without anyone ID'ing them.

Has the UPS driver come forward to help with this?

Any leads from the other motorists who witnessed this?

Traffic was at a stand-still going westbound. Did they turn around and go east?

Glad you have in mind the hit-and-run suspect who left Sister Walsh to die on the side of the road FOUR weeks ago as of last night.
