State Police Investigate Shooting On Shinnecock Indian Reservation Early Saturday Morning

Feb 16, 2016 4:58 PM

A Flanders man was injured early Saturday morning after State Police said he was shot in the leg on the Shinnecock Indian Reservation in Southampton.

The 33-year-old victim was shot at 3:45 a.m. on Little Beach Road, according to State Police Lieutenant Jose Febo. He was transported to Southampton Hospital in a private vehicle.

Police described the two suspects as a Hispanic male and a light-skinned African-American male, but offered no further description. The men fled the scene on Little Beach Road in a dark-colored Jeep SUV. There are “no particular suspects in mind,” Lt. Febo said.

This was the second shooting that occurred within a three-week span in the Southampton area. On January 25, three people were injured in a drive-by shooting involving a shotgun on Hillcrest Avenue. Lt. Febo said that State Police are currently working with other agencies to determine whether the two incidents are related: “We are working cooperatively with other agencies in regards to that shooting.”

State Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call their Farmingdale headquarters at (631) 756-3300.

Maybe if the shooter had medical marijuana . . . he would have mellowed out?

Yet another poorly written and sketchy report. Surely there are available details that could have been included to paint a clearer picture. Did shooting happen inside or outside? Was it a drive-by? "Two suspects", but which one did the shooting? Etc., etc.

Any connection to the Hill drive by? At least the State Police have the testicular fortitude to issue a description of the perps in a timely manner.

Never any good press from the Shinnecock. It's better just to think it's a golf course.

One can never know what really happens in the Shinnecock Reservation since it is not open to local police or even the community - except during the pow wow. There has been a tremendous share of tragedy there - this last decade alone - something is going on there but what?
