Police are looking for a man who they suspect stole a $5,000 statue from a Southampton Village store in July.

A man and two children entered Cabana at 53 Jobs Lane, where the theft took place, at 6 p.m. on July 22, according to a joint press release issued by Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Southampton Village Police.

Police said the man, described as white with a thin build and dark hair, walked out of the summertime pop-up store, which specializes in luxury, fashion and art, with a KAWS Companion statue worth approximately $5,000. Photos of the black-and-white statue depict a clown with his face in his hands, sitting on a block.

Brian Donnelly, also known as the artist KAWS, has made a name for himself in the world of pop art by taking popular figures like SpongeBob, the Smurfs and Snoopy, crossing out the eyes, and making fine art out of the characters. Some of Mr. Donnelly’s pieces have gone for as high as $352,000.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Southampton Village Police are encouraging anyone with information about the crime to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest, according to the release. Calls will be kept confidential, police said.
