Mark Brunetz, the Emmy Award-winning co-host of “Clean House” and author of “Take the U Out of Clutter,” will pay a visit to the Carpetman in Southampton on Friday, May 16, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Mr. Brunetz will speak about his work in decorating and designing, and also introduce the 2014 Design for a Difference Contest, which will award a designer $25,000 in goods and services to complete a total space makeover for a local charity.
Mr. Brunetz is a “very, very good speaker,” said Robert Gill, the owner of the Carpetman, who made that discovery at an International Design Guild convention in Las Vegas where Mr. Brunetz spoke. He talked about Design for a Difference and how last year’s winning designer did a makeover of a shelter for battered women.
“Why don’t you come out and speak at my store,” Mr. Gill proposed, predicting that the talk at his place would appeal to local designers, architects or anyone interested in fashion or design.
“We’ve been promoting a number of our designers and decorators,” Mr. Gill explained, adding that it would be great if one of them won the contest and could do a local makeover for, say, Lucia’s Angels, which seeks to provide a comfortable environment for late-stage cancer patients on the East End.
Plus, the Carpetman has the “perfect venue” for Mr. Brunetz’s talk—a new fabric showroom for window treatments, reupholstery, slipcovers and draperies with “tons” of hanging samples easily accessible to average homeowners, Mr. Gill said.
Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served at the May 16 event, which is free. Reservations have been requested by May 10 at (631) 283-0885, or bkcarpetmen@gmail.com.
