Calvin Klein mansion approved by Southampton Village ZBA

Jul 28, 2010 10:34 AM

Fashion designer Calvin Klein’s application for a new oceanfront house and accessory structures on Meadow Lane in Southampton Village was approved by the Village Zoning Board of Appeals last Thursday, July 22.

Variances were granted for the coastal erosion hazard area, a setback from the crest of the sand dune, the height of the building, the front yard, and to allow an accessory building to be heated and have an area of 1,872 square feet. The board also granted a wetlands special permit for proposed landscape activity within the regulated wetland setback area.

Mr. Klein demolished the former Dragon’s Head mansion on the site in May. That home had been built for Henry Francis du Pont in the 1920s and was modified and expanded in the 1980s by then-owner Barry Trupin in violation of zoning codes.
