Police Investigate Shooting In Tuckahoe

Jan 19, 2011 11:58 AM

Southampton Town Police on Wednesday had yet to make any arrests in connection with a home invasion in Tuckahoe on Monday morning, in which one man was shot and another beaten.

While police said they don’t have any suspects in the case, they maintain that the house was targeted—but have not said why.

Two men who live in the house at 432 North Magee Street were injured, according to Lieutenant Robert Pearce. One, a 21-year-old man, was shot twice in the abdomen and drove himself to Southampton Hospital just before 10 a.m. A second man, who is 28 years old, was beaten, suffering bruises and cuts to his head and face, and was driven to the hospital by a third man who had been staying at the house, police said. Detective Sergeant Randy Hintze said the third man, who police believe had been staying at the house for a day or two, remained upstairs during the confrontation. The two victims did not provide an explanation for why they did not go to the hospital together, the authorities said.

According to police, two men wearing red bandanas over their faces, and one holding a semi-automatic pistol, tried to enter the residence through the front door at about 9:30 a.m. The 21-year-old tried to hold the men off at the door, when he was shot twice in the abdomen. The 28-year-old resident then confronted the intruders and was assaulted, suffering lacerations and contusions to his face and head, police said. The two robbers then ransacked several rooms in the home before escaping, police said.

Police said they did not know how the attackers fled, nor have they recovered the gun that was used in the shooting. Police would not say what evidence, if any, was recovered, but the bullets, along with any other evidence, were to be sent to the Suffolk County Crime Lab for analysis.

The victims told police they did not know the men who attacked them and that some items were taken from the house, Det. Sgt. Hintze said. He said police were still investigating what had been taken and would not divulge what was said to missing or its estimated value.

Officers at the scene Monday could be heard talking about cameras in the house, and how they were not certain if they were functioning. “There was some indication there may have been video surveillance on the premises,” Det. Sgt. Hintze elaborated on Tuesday. He declined to offer more detail.

The gunshot victim signed himself out of the hospital Monday afternoon or evening, according to Det. Sgt. Hintze. The other man was treated for his injuries and released, police said. Police are withholding their identities, citing the ongoing investigation.

Det. Sgt. Hintze said police turned the house, which they said was being rented by the two men, back to the pair at around 10 p.m. on Monday.

Two men outside the hospital, who would not offer their names but identified themselves as family members, would not discuss the specifics of the shooting Monday morning.

While officers were investigating the crime scene on Monday, a woman driving north on North Magee Street stopped her car and a man stepped out of the vehicle and tried to head toward the house, until he was stopped by police. The man said he was a cousin of one of the victims. Police said no one could come or go, and the pair drove away without incident.

No one was at the home when police arrived just after 10 a.m. Police then cordoned off the house, a modest, two-story home less than a mile north of Tuckahoe School—which was closed that day in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day—and next to a church, the Padgett Temple.

Police were observed laying out numerous yellow numbered evidence markers. A New York State Police K-9 unit was also on the scene. There were two cars in the driveway: a Ford Fusion with North Carolina license plates, and another snow-covered vehicle. There was talk among officers at the scene of the front door being forced open.

Two dogs were removed from the house by the Town Police Animal Control Unit as a precaution.

Police said there appeared to be no link between Monday’s incident and a home invasion in Eastport on January 7. “We have been in contact with the Suffolk County Police detectives investigating that case, and we’ve compared notes and don’t believe that it’s related at this time,” Det. Sgt. Hintze said.

When the initial call of a gunshot-wound victim at the hospital came in that morning, Southampton Village Police responded to the hospital and a house on Powell Avenue in the village. Village Police Chief William Wilson Jr. said on Monday that Village Police knew the shooting victim formerly lived at that home. After an interview with the victims revealed that the crime had not taken place in the village, the investigation was turned over to Town Police.

Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to contact the Southampton Town Police Detective Division at 702-2230, the Crimetips hotline at 728-3454 or by e-mail at crimetips@southamptontownny.gov.

Your should strive for stupid - c'mon now - neither were Mexican, and a lot of people are home on Martin Luther King Jr. Day considering its a federal holiday. I am going to go out on a limb, "pay more attention" and use some deductive reasoning to conclude that you are a small minded bigot who assumes anyone who speaks spanish is Mexican and that all minorities are drug addicts. There is no reason to evoke ethnicity in response to an article that makes no mention of it. IGNORAMUS.

DRUGS, DRUGS, DRUGS.... Not because of ethnicity, but because of the video cameras, dogs and home invasion.

If it was a house with just drug addicts there would likely not be much to rob, but if they were dealing drugs well.......

Indeed, why take two vehicles to get to the same place?

Why let a gunshot victim drive himself to the hospital?

The gunshot victim had to get help right away, the beating victim stayed to help the third or maybe there was a fourth man collect and stash the drugs and money before police arrived!

NYS Requires proof of legal status and a visa valid for more than 6 months. This forces anyone not here legally or just here for 6 months or less to commit insurance fraud and register there care in NC. This is the dumbest law. People need a car to live on the east end of Long Island. If they register a car in NC but live in NY they are committing fraud and their insurance company will not pay any claims. If NYS would allow illegals to register cars here all of the rest of NY would be safer!

No one knows if they were illegals, or even Latinos. All we know is that the victims were young, had pitbulls - lots of people have those - and that a car from North Carolina was in the driveway. Many local families have relatives from North Carolina who come to visit, so that's not unusual in itself. I see NC plates in supermarket lots frequently. Home invasions are unusual, and this house was probably targeted as the story said. Why, is the question we would all like answered.

Maybe they were just a group good ol' boys come a huntin' for that North Sea venison and wild turkeys. The guys in the red bandanna's mighta been looking for a rival gang and entered that house by mistake. ...The guy who drove himself to the hospital might have panicked and not wanted to wait for an ambulance and his other buddies stayed behind to tidy up before the police investigation. ...In other words, this is just speculation on everyone's part. Some ugly speculation by one person.

I agree with those readers who know about the insurance scams. The police told me right off that the chances of the person having a license were slim. I guess they've seen enough of these scams. Thanks for the fast work catching the person but I know I will not get compensated for the damage.

Suggests controversy could hurt president's re-election chances

Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie suggested in an interview published today that
By Undocumented Democrat (1573), southampton on Jan 18, 11 10:02 PM
a long-form, hospital-generated birth certificate for Barack Obama may not exist within the vital records maintained by the Hawaii Department of Health.
Abercrombie told the Honolulu Star Advertiser he was searching within the Hawaii Department of Health to find definitive vital records that would prove Obama was born in Hawaii, because the continuing eligibility controversy could hurt the president's chances of re-election in 2012.
By Undocumented Democrat (1573), southampton on Jan 18, 11 10:04 PM
Donalyn Dela Cruz, Abercrombie's spokeswoman in Honolulu, ignored again yesterday another in a series of repeated requests made by the press for an interview with the governor.
Toward the end of the interview, the newspaper asked Abercrombie: "You stirred up quite a controversy with your comments regarding birthers and your plan to release more information regarding President Barack Obama's birth certificate. Well what is taking so long. How is that coming?"

By Undocumented Democrat (1573), southampton on Jan 18, 11 10:05 PM
In his response, Abercrombie acknowledged the finding the birth certificate issue will have "political implications" for the next presidential election "that we simply cannot have."

I don't know what this hang up is about his place of birth. I know its written in the Constitution...In this modern era, post WWII, when many American's went abroad for business, official, military, or personal reasons and their children were born in foreign countries, naturalized Americans, the issue of native born American should have no weight in determining who can become President. Some have interpreted the Constitution as allowing for such latitude.

Despite a virtual blackout by the mainstream media, Obama's eligibility troubles and public opinion is turning against him. More than a dozen U.S. House Rep. co-sponsored a bill [to] require presidential candidates to prove their eligibility by providing a copy of their birth certificates," so it seems the burden of proof may be on him. Similar moves are developing at the state level. And a recent poll showed only 4 in 10 Americans believed Obama's own explanation of his birth and growing up years.

Im just wondering if our current Presidents name was John Smith born in Hawaii to an american mother and a dutch father (both white) Reared in and out of the country in countries all over the pacific rim...Im just wondering if there would be any concern over his citizenship. But because he is "black" with an african name, his citizenship is called into question. That is the only reason. Well Dr. King...we have yet to over come. Anyway, So will the facts bare out before or after the 2012 election? Or years from now when the President pens yet another biography revealing his great fraud upon the American people. We shall see.

Joe Hampton, let's lay it on the line, you posts are very often bigoted, spiteful and arrogant. You take nearly any topic and turn it into a conversation laced with hate and racism. Do not insult our intelligence with your talk of "many friends of all colors", blah, blah, blah. Yeah, you are a libertarian, in the same bigoted, narrow-minded and spiteful vein as Rand Paul

PStevens, What is amusing about having a diverse pool of friends. you see I do not see color or race just faulty ideology, cronyism and corruption. If you are so obsessed with playing the race card then I would point out my agreement with Condoleezza Rice, Thomas Sowell, Rev Jesse Peterson, Allen West FL, Alan Keys (Still have my Alisha Keys Tix Stubs as well ) Charles Payne, Armstrong Williams,

Clarence Thomas, Tim Scott SC, J C Watts and many more. I would tolerate a Michael Steel, Juan Williams or Dr Lamont Hill, and Spit on a dirt bag like Jeremiah Wright, Janet Murguia or Malik Shabazz , I think you would agree with the consensus that the idea of a black President owing something specifically to Black America was racist. Obama shouldn't’t owe anything to black Americans that he doesn't owe to all Americans.
By joe hampton (2971), south hampton on Jan 19, 11 2:58 PM
I never said that he owed black Amercians anything. He was elected President of the United States. He cant do for one citizen without doing for all. I just see a disturbing pattern. You call it race baiting. I call it my opinion. If he was white his birth place would not be an issue. It is what is. We agree to disagree.

To paraphrase the great Martin Luther King Jr., He was looking forward to the day when a man was judged by the content of his character, not the color of his skin. That is one of the best ideas of all time. Too bad the racists like Jesse Jackson and the "Reverend" Al Sharpton have twisted it to mean something totally different. A color blind society makes more sense than having affirmitive action and government sanctioned reverse racism.
By bigfresh (3085), north sea on Jan 20, 11 10:31 AM
I don't think he is referring to the rights, but the entitlements and special considerations granted to certain minorities to help some feel better about past wrongs. If a more qualified "white" person is passed over for a position to allow for demographic goals/quotas to be met, yes that would constitute discrimination. And it is no more right than if the situation were reversed.

College entrance should be based on testing and performance, race should not play a factor one way or the other. I would just assume Condeleeza Rice never had the opportunity to lie to us from a cabinet position. She did enough damage from her posts in the corporate world. Colin Powell is a class act and has my utmost respect.
By ICE (1207), Southampton on Jan 20, 11 10:10 PM
Wrong again phil, the Federal and state financial aid programs ensure anyone who is in need of economic assistance for college gets it. Thankfully it isn't based on race or ethnicity, so even poor white kids wont be discriminated either. PELL GRANT, NYS TAP are the two main programs for those in NYS who need tuition assistance.
I know you want to think the man is still holding minorities back, but like the pro Eruv Jews in WHB they are the only ones truly holding themselves back!

Too bad Mr. Lucero didn't head back to Ecuador a little earlier, he may be alive today, no less in the country he rightfully belonged. By ICE (1207), Southampton on Jan 20, 11 7:52 PM

Drugs, no drugs. it shouldn't matter.

A society has been created, evolved to this point, and we now have a "Laudinum Redux"?

WAKE UP. Multitudes suffer, for the folly of "kings". Pot, Mugabe, Hitler, Marcos, Escobar, and, the list grows greater on a much smaller scale all the time. Warlords, Kings, supply, demand, where does the tomfoolery, and arrogance end?

I'm out...
By Mr. Z (9648), North Sea on Jan 22, 11 1:25 AM
If my Latin was half as good as yours I would know for sure, but I believe Laudinum Redox translates to stop the poisoning. and it seems phil (or the talking points he loves to cut a paste) is the most Un comfortable with that scenario.
By joe hampton (2971), south hampton on Jan 22, 11 3:55 PM
Actually, I misspelled laudanum.

However, it means nothing in Latin. Moreover about repeating a slice of History. Heroin rearing it's ugly head. Chances are you know of someone mixed up with it these days. A friend of a friend, cousin, maybe even brother or sister.

There was a bust this week, you never know maybe it was related...
By Mr. Z (9648), North Sea on Jan 26, 11 8:50 PM
I stand on the same principle as the great Martin Luther King, Men should not be judged on the color of their skin, but the content of their character. That means a color blind society with no exceptions. Comprende Phil?
By bigfresh (3085), north sea on Jan 22, 11 6:40 AM
Excellent cut and paste there Phil. Any original thoughts to add to this discussion? I'm amazed that such an enlightened intelectual would blow off the core point of MLK"S entire civil rights movement.
By bigfresh (3085), north sea on Jan 22, 11 8:17 AM
Stop wasting your time with phil he is just not that smart.
By joe hampton (2971), south hampton on Jan 22, 11 1:20 PM
In no way do I endorse discrimination, of any kind. To attribute that sort of ignorant belief to me is rather presumptious. Treating people on the content of their character is by no means discriminatory.
By bigfresh (3085), north sea on Jan 22, 11 8:32 AM
So by treating all people equally, you discriminate against minorities??!! Time to pull yer head out of whatever orifice it's stuck in and listen to your logic! Completely circular and flat out wrong.
By bigfresh (3085), north sea on Jan 22, 11 10:11 AM
My capacity for deep thought has been abundantly illustrated by my continued debate with you. So, by your logic, minorities REQUIRE SPECIAL TREATMENT IN ORDER TO BE COMPEITIVE! Blatant racism.
By bigfresh (3085), north sea on Jan 22, 11 10:51 AM
Its very simple blacks moved to the front of the bus 50 years ago. Now get a job and struggle like the rest of us. Their is nothing raciest about it.Italians, Irish and Asians all suffered through prejudice in this country... but only some try and continue to capitalize on this fact. You can not be equal if you keep looking for special treatment. Instead look to make sure every one has a even playing field and nothing more.
By joe hampton (2971), south hampton on Jan 22, 11 1:30 PM
And that is not to say most of my colored American neighbors have not done just that. Phil you make hard working colored Americans seem like they are still different from the rest of Americans. When you spotlight the difference in the tone of someones skin that most of us have moved beyond 20 years ago. Grow up.

Oh I see now, so by tilting the playing Field toward your imaginary sub group. highlighted by you..... based on skin tone...You plan on assimilating faster and healing old wounds. 70 % of the Americans living here todays ancestors had nothing to do with enslaving anyone. Its a crutch who's day has come now stop making hard working colored Americans feel has if they were different.
And to the REPUBLIC for witch it stands, One nation under God indivisible with truth and justice for ALL!
By joe hampton (2971), south hampton on Jan 22, 11 2:30 PM
People that fight to hold on to the ideology that Phil has about race tend to be the biggest racist themselves. Like poverty pimps Rev Write, Jackson and Sharpton!
the Democratic party has convinced people like Philathome that you are too inferior to survive without special treatment that only the progressives and unions can provide ( as long as you vote for them ) Its called the soft bigotry of low expectations.....

By 27dan (2188), Southampton on Jan 22, 11 2:51 PM
Until people like Philathome stop excepting these excuses and adopt a culture of "self responsibility" and abandon self destructive behaviors that they conveniently blame on others.they will never be able to get past the manipulation and culture of dependence that deprives them of the desire and ability for "self determination"

The proposal from state Rep. Judy Burges, who carried a similar plan that fell short last year only because of political maneuvering, was introduced yesterday with 16 members of the state Senate as co-sponsors.
It needs only 16 votes in the Senate to pass.

When you directly quote text it is considered to be plagiarism if you do not cite your source and indicate that you are using another's words.
In this case the source is World Net Daily so, I cannot completely blame you for not wanting to advertise this fact. I wouldn't want to either- but I had to Google this text to see where it came from. I was not surprised at the result.
The "Black Hawk Down" Food Plan advertisement was quite compelling.

OK. I've read about it. A number of states are considering passing bills that require a candidate for president to provide the state with proof that he is a "natural born citizen" as they construe that term.

These state acts would be so obviously unconstitutional that I can't see them even being calendared in federal district court. If they are, the judge will declare them unconstitutional as soon as the plaintiff presents his case.

Masturbatory fantasies are ultimately unfulfilling. ...more
