A proposal that would drastically retool Southampton Town law governing the approval of planned development districts got high marks from residents and community members at a public hearing held at Town Hall this week.
The amendments to the law were the sole subject of a special Town Board meeting on Tuesday evening. They aim to address key issues about planned development districts that have often been points of criticism by the public. The Town Board has been working on revising the law in recent months. A planned development district, more commonly called a PDD, is a planning tool that allows developers to create a special overlay zone that allows uses that would be precluded by the existing zoning of a property, in exchange for some kind community benefit.
