George Anthony Brumsey III Dies At 53

George Anthony Brumsey III

George Anthony Brumsey III of Southampton died Monday, February 7, at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital. He was 53.

Born in Southampton, he graduated from Southampton High School, and enlisted in the United States Army in 1977; he was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany. After serving in the armed forces, he worked several years as a groundskeeper at the Shinnecock Golf Club. He also worked in the maintenance department of the Westhampton Bath and Tennis Club.

In 1989, Mr. Brumsey married Sandra Eleazer. According to survivors, he was proud of his family and talked about them all the time. He carried pictures of them all and was very proud of the fact that his two daughters graduated from college. He loved to cook, especially collard greens, fried chicken and spare ribs.

He was predeceased by his brother Billy Brumsey. He is survived by his parents Marjorie and George Brumsey Jr. of Southampton; his wife, Sandra Brumsey of Southampton; two daughters, Algina Brumsey and Dorthea Brumsey, both of Kentucky; two sons, Travaun Brumsey and Dontae Bright of Riverhead; two sisters, Daphne Brumsey of Southampton, and Ronnette Brumsey of Georgia; three brothers, Curtis Brumsey of Missouri, Rodney Brumsey of Ossining, Ronnie Brumsey of Mastic-Shirley; grandmother, Janie Brumsey of Southampton; an aunt, Janet Chatman of North Carolina; a grandson, Taiquan Brumsey of Mastic-Shirley; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral arrangements were under direction of Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton. A viewing and funeral service were held on Friday, February 11, at the Community Baptist Church in Southampton. Interment with military honors followed at Calverton National Cemetery.
