John F. Moraldo Sr. of Speonk died on March 28 in his home. He was 70.
Born July 31, 1939, he was the proprietor of Zima Tire Supply in Speonk. In addition, he was a member of the Greater Westhampton Kiwanis Club, Eastport American Legion Post 1545, and the Wildlife Rescue Center of the Hamptons. He also worked as a Southampton traffic control officer and was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 25 years.
Family and friends recently remembered him as a man who “touched so many lives in his time ... he was always there for those who needed to talk, needed help or just needed a ride.”
Those close to him also recalled his love of wildlife and classic cars. According to his family, he could often be seen driving around in his favorite “cameo car.”
He is survived by his wife, Loraine Moraldo of Speonk; two sons, John Moraldo Jr. of Shirley and William Moraldo of Mastic; three daughters, Tracy Collins of Mastic Beach and Loren Santa Maria and Joy Caruana, both of New Jersey; two sisters, Marion Gargano and Louise LaMonica, both of New Jersey; and 12 grandchildren.
The family received visitors on March 30 and 31 at Follett & Werner Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach. American Legion Post 1545 conducted funeral services on March 31, followed by prayer services later that evening. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, April 1, at 10 a.m., at the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Quiogue. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Wildlife Rescue Center of the Hamptons, 228 West Montauk Highway, Hampton Bays would be appreciated by the family.
