Karin R. Bennett
Karin R. Bennett of East Hampton died at the Westhampton Care Center on April 10. She was 91.
Ms. Bennett emigrated from Norway in 1927, with her parents and sister entering the United States through Ellis Island. She lived in Sharon, North Dakota, Chicago, Port Washington and Brooklyn. She married Melvin W. Bennett, who predeceased her, on September 7, 1941, at St. Luke’s Church in East Hampton. The couple lived in Amagansett until moving to their longtime home on Old Stone Highway when Mr. Bennett returned from World War II. Their only son, John, known as Jay, was born in 1955.
Ms. Bennett was known fondly in the area as “The Cake Lady” for all the cakes she baked for families. She taught Sunday school at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Springs. She also worked as a domestic for the William C. Ford family.
Ms. Bennett is survived by her son, John; and two grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Lilla Olenyn of Virginia.
Visitation at Yardley & Pino Funeral Home in East Hampton on Thursday, April 12 was followed by a graveside service on Friday, April 13, at the Greenriver Cemetery in Springs.
