Kent Edward Metz Sr. of Wainscott died on September 17. He was 65.
He was born on December 11, 1950, in New Rochelle. In 1968 he graduated from East Hampton High School where he excelled in football and wrestling. In October 2013, he, along with his 1966 championship football colleagues, were inducted into the East Hampton High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
Survivors said Mr. Metz was always busy in life and in work, having been employed with Dragotta Construction, South Fork Asphalt, Bistrian’s, Sam Mezynieski Excavating Inc., David Whalen Construction and Butch Payne. He retired and, when his father became ill, he moved to Florida to care for him. During a trip to Wainscott for the birthday parties for his mother and a family reunion, he stopped at Keith Grimes, and ended up helping out again. He could operate any type of machinery and taught many of those around him how it should be done.
Mr. Metz had a great love for music, particularly country and the blues and anything James Brown. Survivors said loved to make people laugh and always had a good joke or story to tell. He loved to fish and, more importantly, he loved to be around his family, especially his mother, children and grandchildren.
