Approximately 160 runners came out to support the Flying Point Foundation for Autism on Sunday morning in Water Mill by participating in the sixth annual Flying Point 8K and 2K races.
Dirk Muench, a 33-year-old from Brooklyn, won the 8K with a blistering time of 26:31 (5:18 mile pace), well over three minutes ahead of the second-place finisher, Jason Hancock, a 37-year-old from Southampton, who finished in 29:57.
Muench, a native of Germany who spends his weekends and summers in East Hampton, said the race was a final tune-up for the New York City Marathon, which is the first weekend in November.
“I was very happy with my run,” he said. “I wanted to run 26:40, and I think I ran close to 26:25. Fifteen seconds is a lot, so I’m very happy.”
