UPDATE 12:30 p.m.:
The crash actually occurred early Sunday morning, at about 1:56 a.m., according to a Southampton Town Police press release. Mr. Kidd’s car, a 2010 Cadillac Escalade, went into the woods after striking the telephone pole. The accident occurred at the intersection of Cobb Road and Little Cobb Road. Mr. Kidd was transported to Southampton Hospital and treated for minor injuries, then transported to police headquarters for processing.
Mr. Kidd, a resident of Dallas, Texas, faces a misdemeanor count of DWI.

NBA star Jason Kidd, who signed 10 days ago with the New York Knicks, was arrested Saturday night by Southampton Town Police and charged with DWI after a single-car motor vehicle accident in Water Mill last night.
Mr. Kidd, 39, was driving on Cobb Road in sometime during overnight hours when he struck a telephone pole, according to a source. He suffered minor injuries in the crash and was charged a short time later.
He was arraigned at Southampton Town Justice Court this morning and subsequently released.
Mr. Kidd, a point guard who has played for 18 years in the NBA, is a 10-time All-Star who won a championship in 2011 with the Dallas Mavericks. He signed with the Knicks on July 5. He also has won two gold medals with the U.S. Olympic basketball team.
Police will provide more information on this story later today.
