Mr. Kidd, a resident of Dallas, Texas, faces a misdemeanor count of DWI.

NBA star Jason Kidd, who signed 10 days ago with the New York Knicks, was arrested Saturday night by Southampton Town Police and charged with DWI after a single-car motor vehicle accident in Water Mill last night.

Mr. Kidd, 39, was driving on Cobb Road in sometime during overnight hours when he struck a telephone pole, according to a source. He suffered minor injuries in the crash and was charged a short time later.

He was arraigned at Southampton Town Justice Court this morning and subsequently released.

Mr. Kidd, a point guard who has played for 18 years in the NBA, is a 10-time All-Star who won a championship in 2011 with the Dallas Mavericks. He signed with the Knicks on July 5. He also has won two gold medals with the U.S. Olympic basketball team.

I just have no respect for drunk drivers ever so he just got knocked down a few pegs in my book and I find him a lot less appealing thats for sure. Nice role model buddy way to let the kids look up to you !

Jason kidd is no role model. He is a wife beater (pled guilty in 01) and just an all around bad guy who can dribble a basketball.

By C Law (288), Water Mill on Jul 16, 12 5:01 AM
I swear I saw Jason at a local store but coudn't positively say it was him.

Now that I see his photo it was him I saw. It was at the CVS in Southampton.

So who give a damn? You can see lots of famous (?) people in the Hamptons. But I don't see you getting excited because I was in CVS at the same time!!!!

If your that stupid to teach your kids to look up to pro athletes then shame on you

Speaking of stupid, try "you're" instead of "your."

Gotta love the grammar police!
By dnice (1336), Hampton Bays on Jul 16, 12 7:36 PM
Ok well someone should tell that to all the parents of my students who wear these guys’ jerseys every day and spend the school year pouring their hearts out to me in 5 page papers on how they want to be like so and so someday. It’s not ideal but its reality and it’s what is happening so be responsible.

Accidents happen-plea guilty, pay the fine, and move on. It is a tricky corner when you don't know the area.

A tricky corner?!? Tricky corner my ass! Little Cobb is a straight road with a STOP sign at the intersection of Cobb Rd. This moron blew right through the STOP sign and plowed into the telephone pole. I've lived just up the road from that intersection for over 40 years and this is the first time anyone has ever had an accident like this.
By itsamazing (159), Southampton on Jul 16, 12 12:25 AM
EastEnd, shame on you.

You'd sing a different tune if he ran over one of your family members. This guys makes millions, and he's not smart enough to get a cab? (or for his money, a limo) I don't care what team you root for, this should not be tolerable. Peirod.

The way things are going today (as opposed to pre 1964) the workers are working past Labor Day. Now a days ya can't roll a bowling ball down Main Street at noon on that once upon a time wonderful day.

Might we see him sometime in the near future, in a community service capacity?

I think a speaking engagement with the local youth may have it's value...

Or, better yet a hundred (or even better yet 240) hours spent at various local transfer stations throughout the town...

I think a "Meet Jason Kidd Day" (maybe 30 of them) would be more fun.

Imagine the conversation you could have over a bag of recyclables...

At least innocent people were not hurt and hopefully Mr. Kidd realizes the magnitude of his mistake.

Not to condone DWI, just thankful it wasn't worse.

Too bad he's not an illegal immigrant...then all he'd have to do is go home for a few weeks and then come back over the border into a different state.

What's the fuss? It's a DWI. The local Judges will give him a slap on the wrist, a wink & a nod and that's all.
By G (200), Southampton on Jul 15, 12 6:30 PM
Is this the treatment for everyone or just celebrities?
By ness4493 (3), sag harbor on Jul 16, 12 9:17 AM
To Reality-why would he have to go home for a few weeks? I thought they just had to go to a different state, like SC

I was wondering why the press was not ignoring this story, Now that a picture has been posted it makes much more sense.

Astute observation.

Another drunk ended up upside down after hitting a tree in that area the week before. I suspect speed as well as alcohol was involved in both incidents as both lost control while trying to make a fairly simple turn. Thankfully, nobody else got hurt.

I am available to drive athletes, celebrities, and other assorted boneheads around as they party in"the Hamptons". My hourly rate is considerably less than that of Eddie Burke.

While I commend the Press for posting mug shots of drunks, I have to wonder why someone else can kill a nun and we get a photo of a car.

Arrogance. Ego. Sense of entitlement. All of these factors in his descision to get behind the wheel even though clearly intoxicated. Why don't the night clubs have "emergency drivers" on standby, someone who they can page in the middle of the night to come and drive these people home? This will save lives!

The first thing that goes when drinking is the ability to reason. If you are going out to drink take a cab. This way you have to take a cab home.

LUCKY for the nun killer that Kidd came along and took over the headlines. SH Press better start following up on older stories before putting a new one front and center. the lack of coverage in the Sister's hit and run has been pathetic even for the Press.
By xtiego (303), bridgehampton on Jul 17, 12 7:18 PM
A true three pointer. Kidd gets charged with a DWI, Dolan loses his Cable because of it and the Brooklyn Nets are offering cash for any Jeremy Lin jersey out there!
Love it!!! Swish!
