Thomas Edward Modzelewski Of Water Mill Dies December 13

Thomas Edward Modzelewski died on December 13, 2017, in West Palm Beach, Florida. He was 91.

Mr. Modzelewski was born on October 18, 1926, at Southampton Hospital and was raised in Water Mill. He attended Southampton High School, graduating in 1944. He was a proud potato farmer and loved tending to his gardens and keeping his lawn to perfection. He was an avid card player who enjoyed beating his son at their favorite game. He also enjoyed playing poker at his church, St. Ignatius Loyola, in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

A longtime usher at Our Lady of Poland Church in Southampton, it was there that he met the woman who would become his wife, Theresa, known as “Terri.” They loved to dance, especially the jitterbug. A fan of the Red Sox, New York Giants and University of North Carolina Tar Heels, he loved dessert and always left room for ice cream or a Frosty.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Thomas Jude “TJ” of West Palm Beach; and stepsons, David Timothy Hester of Minnesota and James Michael Hester of Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his father, Brunoslaw; his mother, Maryanna; and four sisters, Helen, Jessie, Louise Tchorzewski and Joanne Borkoski.

Visitation will be held at O’Connell Rothwell Funeral Home in Southampton on Thursday, December 21, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will take place at Our Lady of Poland Church in Southampton on December 22 at 10 a.m.
