Neil John Heiskell of Water Mill died on March 13, following a brief illness. He was 84.
Born on July 7, 1929, in Morgantown, West Virginia, Mr. Heiskell was the son of Dr. E. Frank Heiskell and Olwen John Heiskell. He was a graduate of the Parsons School of Design in New York City and enjoyed a distinguished career in interior design with the prominent firm of Howard & Barley in New York. A resident of the Upper East Side, he acquired the firm and became its principal officer and designer in 1975. His work was featured in several newspaper and magazine articles and, although he retired in 2011, he remained in demand by many of his clients and continued to serve them until recently.
Mr. Heiskell is survived by his partner of 63 years, Howard W. Parker, a native of Syracuse, and also a graduate of Parsons. They were married in 2012. Mr. Heiskell and Mr. Parker purchased their historic Water Mill home in 1964 and resided there since their respective retirements.
Mr. Heiskell was predeceased by a brother, Dr. Edgar F. Heiskell Jr. A sister, Winifred H. Wildman of West Virginia, survives, along with several nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren. Mr. Heiskell also leaves his beloved pet, “Cotton,” a bichon-poodle mix.
A private family service was held on March 14.
