UPDATE: 2:13 p.m.

According to the State Department of Environmental Conservation, a truck driver with McLane Trucking hit a large boulder while leaving the Speedway gas station after delivering groceries to the station's convenience store.

When the truck hit the boulder at 3 a.m. on Tuesday morning, the 100-gallon diesel saddle tank on the truck was ruptured, resulting in approximately 25 gallons of diesel spilling out onto the pavement and nearby grassy area.

The DEC said the saddle tanks were not filled to capacity at the time of collision and Speed-Dry was spread onto the spill by local fire marshalls.

McLane Trucking hired Miller Environmental to clean up the spill, the DEC added, and no drainage structures were impacted.

ORIGINAL:

Cleanup efforts were underway near a gas station along Montauk Highway in Water Mill on Tuesday morning, after a tanker truck leaked gasoline onto the road the night before, threatening nearby waterways.

The truck was located at the Speedway gas station near Scuttlehole Road when gasoline spewed into the lot and onto the highway.

DEC crews were seen at the spill location on Tuesday morning while cleanup efforts were taking place.

Calls to both the DEC and Southampton Town Police seeking information about the spill were not immediately returned.

No other information was available.
