Keyboard And Clarinet Collaboration At The Parrish

Clarinet and piano duos are rare on the modern concert stage, despite the breadth of extraordinary music written for the instruments, which is why, on Friday, October 11, at 6 p.m., as part of its Salon Series, the Parrish Art Museum will present Misuzu Tanaka and Maksim Shtrykov performing masterpieces for piano and clarinet. The duo will play compositions by Mendelssohn and Lovreglio, and an original transcription of a Prokofiev sonata.

Avid chamber music collaborators, Tanaka and Shtrykov have been working together since 2012, when they met and experienced a unique artistic connection. Graduates of The Juilliard School, they also enjoy extensive international solo careers that have taken them to Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Germany’s Leipzig Gewandhaus and Japan’s Izumi Hall. Season highlights of 2019-2020 include performances at the Placitas Artist Series in New Mexico and the Art Complex Museum Concert Series in Massachusetts as well as the release of their debut album, “Epilogues” which focuses on the last works of Johannes Brahms, Francis Poulenc, and Camille Saint-Saëns.

The Parrish’s Salon Series is a concert program featuring award-winning young musicians performing in an intimate, casual setting that evokes the salons of Paris. At all Salon Series concerts, performers offer insights and anecdotes about their programs, and attendees can meet and talk with the musicians following the concerts.

“Salon Series is a highlight of our music programming at the Parrish,” said Parrish Museum Director Terrie Sultan. “It’s so much more than a concert — it’s the opportunity for audience and performer to come together in an intimate dialogue about the work of great composers.”
