A pedestrian was hit by a car late Friday morning at the Southampton Town Transfer Station on Old Country Road in Westhampton, according to Southampton Town Police.
Marie Gordon of Eastport was standing behind her parked vehicle, removing trash from the trunk, when Westhampton resident Clinton Hammond’s foot slipped off the brake pedal of his 2010 Ford Focus as he was attempting to park behind her.
Ms. Gordon was struck and pinned between the two vehicles, according to a police report issued on Saturday.
The Westhampton Ambulance and Westhampton Fire Department responded as well as Southampton Town Police to free Ms. Gordon, and she was transported by Suffolk County Police Medevac helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of injuries that police did not describe.
The transfer station was closed for an hour after the accident, which took place at 11 a.m., during an investigation, and both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Police said they did not expect to file any charges against Mr. Hammond.
