Ann Baker Chandler, a longtime resident of Westhampton Beach, died on February 6, 2017, in Vero Beach, Florida. She was 96.
Ms. Chandler was born in Yonkers on July 28, 1920, to Harry and Eva Maschak. After high school, she worked as a pediatric nurse at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan. When the United States entered World War II, she enlisted in the Army and worked in the Pentagon.
Survivors said she had a great affinity for cooking and caring for people, a trait she brought with her to Vero Beach. She loved gardening and growing vegetables, up until last year.
She was predeceased by brothers, Peter, Michael, William, John, Joseph and Anthony; and sisters Mary Hoyko and Rosalie Botcheller. She was also predeceased by her first husband, Anton Baker; and second husband Lee Chandler. Her siblings, Nicholas Maschak and Helen Charleton, survive. She is also survived by her daughters Barbara Fenner and husband Thomas, and Betsy Baker of Westhampton; and a grandson, Richard Fenner. Her live-in companion and caregiver, “LJ,” also survives.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 9, at 2 p.m. at Strunk Funeral Home in Vero Beach.
