Fire crews responded to a fire at a home on South Road in Westhampton Beach on Saturday morning that was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived.

Westhampton Beach Fire Department Chief Billy Dalton said a call came in at 7:15 a.m. on Saturday about smoke coming from a home on the corner of South Road and Oneck Lane. When the firefighters arrived, the home was fully engulfed.

Chief Dalton said nobody was at the home, and fortunately, nobody was injured.

The fire started in one of the upstairs bedrooms and then spread into the attic, according to Chief Dalton. He said crews needed to use the tower ladder to get above the fire, which ultimately, took crews nearly three hours to put out.

“It was a little stubborn,” Chief Dalton said.

Assisting with the fire were nearly 55 firefighters from departments in Westhampton Beach, Eastport, East Quogue and Gabreski Airport. Also assisting was the Quogue Fire Department, which was on standby at the Westhampton Beach Firehouse, and the Westhampton War Memorial Ambulance Association, which checked firefighters out as they came from the scene.
